What's Going on with my drive mappings?

During the installation of WinFrame you can chose to have the server's drive letters the standard C:, D:, E: and so forth, or you can choose to have setup rename the drive letters, which it changes to M:, N:, O:, and so forth.

If you leave the server's drive letters C: etc, then when the client logs in and gets their drives mapped there is a conflict with two devices wanting to be C:, D:, E:, and so forth. So the server will rename the client drives, starting with V: and working it's way up. Assuming both the client and server have C:, D:, and E: the following will happen:

  • A: = client A: (this is always true, no matter what)
  • C: = server C:
  • D: = server D:
  • E: = server E:
  • T: = client E:
  • U: = client D:
  • V: = client C:

Drives will be renamed only when necessary, so if the server has a C: and a E:, but no D: then the following will happen instead:

  • C: = server C:
  • D: = client D:
  • E: = server E:
  • U: = client E:
  • V: = client C:

If the server's drives are M:, N:, and O: then the client's C:, D: and E: will not be renamed when logged into WinFrame.
