Disable sounds in Winframe/Metaframe/TSE for better performance.

Did you know that whether you can hear them or not sound files are played BY DEFAULT within Metaframe. Every session that logs in plays the windows chimes, every session that logs out plays the windows exit sound. Further if you install Internet Explorer it will create a sound in the sound applet that makes a clicking sound every time that a page or object is accessed within IE. Can you imagine 20 users in IE browsing and sound files being fired off for every page they access? Not to forget to mention that stupid tapping paperclip in the Office Apps(whom should also be disable. The strain on the server is unfathomable! You can disable sounds at the client end by going into Citrix Client Configuration and clicking on advanced and disable the client sound mapping but this only works for ICA not RDP and the sound is still played on the server even though the client can't hear it.

To get rid of this problem go to the control panel and click on the sound applet and go through each of the sound types under the events window and click on it and under the name drop down set the sound to be NONE. A Thin.Net Citrix list user also came up with an even quicker way though. Go to the schemes drop down and choose "NO SOUNDS" and click on OK. The icons will disappear and no sounds will be played.

To disable sound in Winframe open the control panel, click on sounds and uncheck the box that says enable system sounds.
